Opening an account abroad

To buy a property in Brazil, you need a National Tax ID number (CPF). You are not required to have a bank account in Brazil, as you can make a direct payment to the vendors account.
However, if you are interested in opening a Premier account, Brazilian legislation mandates that the customer or a legally authorized representative must be present at the HSBC branch to open the account and the person opening the account must be considered resident in Brazil.
Outbound international transfers can be made at your HSBC branch or via Global Transfers. For transfers not via Global Transfers, the account holder or a legally authorized representative must be present at the branch to sign the foreign exchange contract that states the conversion rates for the transfer.
Please note that due to the hours of the Brazilian foreign exchange market, this procedure can only be done from Monday to Friday, 10:00am - 3:00pm at the branch.
Brazilian legislation requires that the beneficiary or a legally authorized representative must sign a foreign exchange contract at the branch, agreeing to the conversion rate before the local currency equivalent of an international transfer is credited to the relevant account.
Please note that due to the hours of the Brazilian foreign exchange market, this procedure can only be done from Monday to Friday, 10:00am - 3:00pm at the branch. It cannot be done via Internet Banking or the HSBC Call Centre.
