Yes. You can make withdrawals using your HSBC debit or credit card.
Debit card:
You can withdraw from any Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) that is linked to the Cirrus or Visa Plus network, using your debit card. The network logo printed on your card must also be displayed on the ATM. Cirrus and Visa Plus logos are displayed below:


- The withdrawal limit at our ATMs in Brazil is R$1,000 each business day i.e., Monday – Friday.
- Fees for withdrawals are determined by the bank in your home country. Authorisation of the transaction depends on available funds in your current account (credit balance + overdraft limit) at the time of withdrawal.
HSBC Premier Customers
As an HSBC Premier customer, fees for withdrawals made from HSBC ATMs are waived.

Credit cards
You can also make withdrawals using your HSBC Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit card at all ATMs that are part of the Visa Plus, Cirrus or American Express networks. Please verify that the network logo printed on your card is also displayed on the ATM.
TIP: Verify the charges for withdrawals made abroad with your home branch before heading overseas.

1. My credit or debit card does not work. What should I do?
The HSBC Brazil Call Centre cannot access the details of the account in your home country. You will need to contact your home branch or the HSBC Call Centre in your home country to ask for information.
- You may need an access code to speak with your HSBC Call Centre.

TIP: If you do not have an access code, please call the HSBC Call Centre to register before you travel!
2. My cards have been lost/stolen/damaged and I need cash. What should I do?
Please remember that in the absence of your debit card, your credit card can be used as a substitute to make purchases and withdraw cash.
If you are in an emergency situation, i.e., you are not in possession of any of your cards, you may go to any HSBC branch and request an Emergency Encashment. The branch staff will lead you through the procedures and documentation in order to make funds available to you as soon as possible.
Withdrawal amounts are dependent on the approval of your home branch. You will need to present the following documents at the branch:
- Passport.
- Proof that you are an HSBC customer.
- Police report, if applicable.
Please note that due to the hours of the Brazilian foreign exchange market, emergency encashments are only available from Monday to Friday, 10:00am - 3:00pm.
HSBC Premier Customers
As an HSBC Premier customer, you are entitled to an emergency encashment of US$1,000 at any HSBC branch in the world. Withdrawals above this amount will need to be approved by your home branch.

1. How can I convert foreign currency in Brazil?
HSBC Brazil only deals with USD and Euro currencies. HSBC Brazil can buy up to R$10,000 worth of Dollars or Euros from other HSBC customers as long as the currency notes were purchased from another HSBC entity.
You will need to provide:
- Your Passport
- Proof that the original currency purchase was made at HSBC (foreign exchange contract and/or receipts).
- Proof that you are an HSBC customer (debit or credit card, or cheque book).
Currency conversion is available at select HSBC branches in Brazil.

2. Can I cash my Travellers Cheques at HSBC?
HSBC can cash Travellers Cheques up to a limit of R$10,000. You will need to present your passport at the branch. This service is available at select HSBC branches in Brazil.
